Full scholarships (100%)
Let me start with the bad news. Full scholarships (100% tuition fees plus stipend) are virtually impossible to come by and immensely competitive. The good news is that, if you are in the top 5% of your country in terms of academic achievement, you have some chance over others.- a lot of options are listed below. These full scholarships will cover tuition fees, and some will even offer you a stipend (a sum of money to cover for your living expenses). See the list below for details.
Have a think about it. Why would an institution or government offer a scholarship? First of all the truth of the matter is that it is unlikley one would offer a scholarship just because you are unable to fund your studies yourself. However, IF you are a top student from your country and you cannot afford to pay your way, there are many institutions who will support this type of individual. That is the way it works. Not good news to everyone, but good news to those who have the academic potential and have proof to show.
Scholarships 50%, 25% etc
Other scholarships are a bit less competitive but 25% - 50% scholarships are still hard to come by. They also come in many different forms. Some will cover part of your tuition fees or come in the form of a studentship which will involve some teaching for which you get paid a stipend.
Scholarships around 10%
The good news is that there are a fair number of these part scholarships and are offered by institutions themselves. So how do you get one of these? You need to liaise with the institution to find out what they offer and the terms. However, understand that you have to show that you have the necessary funds to cover for a majority of your tuition fees and of course all living expenses. You can look at the 10% scholarship as a goodwill gesture to reward your academic achievements.
Listed below are various scholarship opportunities via governmental, non-governmental and institutions themselves. Whilst not an exhaustive list, it should give you some insight into what is available. However, scholarship opportunities are not very well communicated by anyone, so if you are searching for a full scholarship, or a partial stipend to help with your own funding, then what should you do? The best thing to do is to do a search for a particular course (via the click here to SEARCH engine) and request info on that course. It is very likely the institution will come back to you with the relevant course info plus any scholarship info. If they don't, then it is up to you to reply and ask the question yourself!

UK scholarships offered by specific universities for international students
The University of Westminster has been running its international scholarship scheme for the past 10 years and has benefited more than 2,500 international students in that time. ‘We look for academic potential rather than academic excellence,’ says the university’s director of scholarships Colin Matheson. ‘For our full scholarships, we’re looking to help students who could not hope to study abroad without our help. Indeed, many can’t even afford to study locally. We’ve helped students who have arrived in the UK with next to nothing get high-powered jobs with government or business.’
The University of Westminster’s international scholarship scheme, with its total purse of £4 million, is the largest scheme in the UK but it’s not the only one. With money tight and the global economic situation making the cost of further study challenging, universities up and down the country are helping the world’s most promising postgraduates pursue their ambitions.
The University of Edinburgh, for example, launched its Global Development Academy master’s programme in 2010 and now makes four scholarships available each year to students who wish to study international development. Two of the places are specifically aimed at postgraduates from developing countries from Afghanistan or Angola to Zambia or Zimbabwe. Robert Lawrie, head of the university’s scholarships and student funding services, says his department has received almost 800 applications for these scholarships over the past two years alone.
